New opportunities and technologies

The current scenario has provided advantages for the transportation sector.

The use of on-board technology systems in buses is one of the current opportunities that the market is offering service providers. In this way, operators can offer their customers greater convenience and comfort on their journeys, as well as better fleet management and maintenance for their employees.

Interaction with passengers has become a fundamental pillar in attracting new audiences to bus transportation, and the experience begins with the sale of tickets and continues through to the journey on board. Comil Ônibus has constantly invested in new technologies for the manufacture of its products, applying them to the development of new projects and concepts, all designed to provide greater safety and comfort for both the driver and passengers.

"The current transportation scenario, with growing passenger demand, has provided advantages for many of our customers to make new investments in renewing their fleets, which also gives us the capacity to carry out research and development into new technologies," says Comil Ônibus' Commercial Director, Tiago Zanette.

Brazil's current political scenario has still caused apprehension in the sector, mainly due to high interest rates, making financing an obstacle for some companies to make new investments and consequently renew their fleets at the desired level. On the other hand, the government is encouraging the industry in general through federal programs, such as Provisional Measure 1.175/2023, to scrap vehicles that are more than 20 years old, giving bonuses for the purchase of new vehicles. Brazil still has approximately 440,000 cargo and passenger vehicles over 20 years old in circulation. This measure, in addition to encouraging production in the industries, will also bring many benefits to the sector such as increased safety on the roads, reducing the risk of accidents, savings in fuel consumption, less environmental pollution with the reduction of carbon emissions and more technologies available.

"The program is in force until September/23, but we hope that this can be extended, and the scrapping of the fleet will be a constant program for the sector, providing an opportunity to improve the entire public transport system," adds Tiago Zanette.
